SKF CRW5 and CRWA5 Nitrile Oil Seals: A difference in pressure from one side of the sealing application to the other usually means that radial shaft seals of a particular design with garter spring have to be used, as other standard seal types can normally only withstand a pressure differential of the order of 0,07 MPa at relatively slow speeds. Generally, for applications where a pressure differential exists, CRW5 or CRWA5 seals are recommended as these can withstand pressures of up to 0,63 MPa at speeds of up to 5 m/s. When subjected to pressure, the lip of the seal will be pressed harder against its counter face causing more friction and a rise in under lip temperature. When speeds are high this will lead to accelerated wear and will appreciably shorten the service life of the seal and its counter face. Where there is a pressure differential, the pressure and circumferential speed should be carefully matched.
